This elaborate tiered cast iron fountain by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, sculptor of the Statue of Liberty, has graced the grounds of the Botanic Garden since 1878. It was purchased by the federal government for $6,000 after being exhibited to great acclaim along with the right hand of Liberty at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876. The fountain exemplifies the fashion for civic.
Bartholdi Park Fountain Roman Fountains
This park is home to the U.S. Botanic Garden Administration Building and the Bartholdi Fountain. The park was renamed in 1985 to honor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi who designed the Statue of Liberty. The thirty-foot-tall Bartholdi Fountain was also renamed and was originally designed for Philadelphia's 1876 Centennial Exhibition. Capitol architect Frederick Law Olmsted purchased the fountain.

Photos Description The Bartholdi fountain was created for the 1876 Philadelphia Exposition. It was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and it was cast by the Durenne foundry in France. When the Exposition ended in 1877, Bartholdi did not find any buyers, and it was purchased by the U.S. Congress.
